History

Citizens Christian Academy (CCA) was founded in 1969 by parents and community leaders known as the Citizens League. This group wanted an alternative choice in education for the community and surrounding counties. CCA was chartered in the state of Georgia as a nonprofit organization, Coffee Parents, Inc., and is governed by a Board of Trustees. The first officers of the Citizens League were Grady Blount, Jr., Jimmy Sayer, and Lois Mills along with Ralph Threatt, Osborn Mills, James H. Day, D.B. Phillips, and Jerry Day serving as the directors. The first Board of Trustees were Elwood Bennett, Charles Deen, Jr., J.M. Ely, J.W. Griffin, D.L. O’Steen, Ralph Threatt, Ira Vickers, and Albert Wooten.

In the beginning, the school had 302 students and 12 teachers. Classes were held at the Holiness Baptist Campground located east of Douglas while the present facility was under construction. With Mrs. Lois Mills digging the first shovel of dirt to begin the project, the construction was completed in just 28 days in 1969.

Mrs. Eula Kirby was CCA’s first headmistress. She served until the middle of the first year, and Mr. Ralph Rosenberg completed the school term as headmaster. Mr. Felton “Buck” Morris served as the third headmaster for eight years. The fourth and current headmaster is Mr. William E. Rish.

The mission of CCA has always been to provide the best academic curriculum in a wholesome Christian environment in order to prepare its students for a bright and prosperous future. As we look back over four decades of providing students with an outstanding education, we are reminded of our founding fathers and board members who had a vision for our school and saw it through to completion. Although many faces, families, and staff members have changed over the years, one thing will never change: Citizens Christian Academy is committed to the educational advancement of its students.
